Visitor Visa (Subclass 600 Visa)

This visa stream lets you visit Australia as a tourist, to see family and friends or for purposes other than paid employment or medical treatment.

What you can do

The Visitor Visa (subclass 600) allows you to visit Australia for:

• Holiday or sightseeing for up to three, six or 12 months, depending on the type of visitor visa issued
• Business trips
• Visiting relatives or friends
• Studying for less than 3 months

Longer validity visitor visas are available for parents of Australian permanent residents and citizens.

Passport holders from certain countries do not have to apply for a visitor visa and can apply for an Electronic Travel Authority instead.

Applicant requirements

• Be a genuine tourist
• Have sufficient funds
• Meet health and character requirements

Restrictions

You cannot undertake paid work on a visitor visa.

The visa is subject to cancellation if you are not a genuine visitor on entry to Australia.
